The ‘Royal Slut’ ( 2 ) !!

( in continuation of my post dated 18 June 2016 – “The Royal Slut”http://wp.me/p2z9Ss-we ).

Thinking about the ‘Royal Slut’, one day I half-heartedly, ‘google searched’ the risk factor involved in using our much pampered and of corse much needed, ‘Royal Princess’ – the medical “Science” and…. saying that the result of the ‘search’ was “shocking and staggering” …would be an understatement. Please read it for yourself ( or ‘google search’ it yourself because here I am reproducing only a part of the ‘original report’ ) :

“How Many Die From Medical Mistakes in U.S. Hospitals?

In 2010, the Office of Inspector General for Health and Human Services said that bad hospital care contributed to the deaths of 180,000 patients in Medicare alone in a given year.

Now comes a study in the current issue of the Journal of Patient Safety that says the numbers may be much higher — between210,000 and 440,000 patients each year who go to the hospital for care suffer some type of preventable harm that contributes to their death, the study says.

That would make medical errors the third-leading cause of death in America, behind heart disease, which is the first, and cancer, which is second.

The new estimates were developed by John T. James, atoxicologist at NASA’s space center in Houston who runs an advocacy organization called Patient Safety America. James has also written a book about the death of his 19-year-old son after what James maintains was negligent hospital care.

Asked about the higher estimates, a spokesman for the American Hospital Association said the group has more confidence in the IOM’s estimate of 98,000 deaths. ProPublica asked three prominent patient safety researchers to review James’ study, however, and all said his methods and findings were credible.

What’s the right number? Nobody knows for sure. There’s never been an actual count of how many patients experience preventable harm. So we’re left with approximations, which are imperfect in part because of inaccuracies in medical records and the reluctance of some providers to report mistakes.

“We need to get a sense of the magnitude of this,” James said in an interview.

By combining the findings and extrapolating across 34 million hospitalizations in 2007, James concluded that preventable errors contribute to the deaths of 210,000 hospital patients annually.

That is the baseline. The actual number more than doubles, James reasoned, because the trigger tool doesn’t catch errors in which treatment should have been provided but wasn’t, because it’s known that medical records are missing some evidence of harm, and because diagnostic errors aren’t captured.

An estimate of 440,000 deaths from care in hospitals “is roughly one-sixth of all deaths that occur in the United States each year,” James wrote in his study. He also cited other research that’s shown hospital reporting systems and peer-review capture only a fraction of patient harm or negligent care.

These figures are for America, where these figures are honestly maintained and recorded.

What about rest of the world, especially the third world countries, where every effort is made, “through proper channel” to sweep these figures under the carpet.

I hate to know these figures, least of all, to discuss them. But what baffles me is not these figures but our reaction to them. We simply blame the  ‘human-error’ for these deaths (millions ). We go out of our way to defend the medical science for all this. The Royal Princess can not go wrong…can do no… wrong, right ?

And the Princess has reached this stage after thousands of years, research and recognition. What would have happened without that research and recognition ? Well …very very…. scary scenario !!

IS IT STILL A SCIENCE ?

Well if yes, then definitely a KILLING one and a RISKY one !!

And how many ( if I may ask ) ….how many this Royal Slut, this Astrology… has killed ?

I guess none.

But yes, prediction or predictions do go wrong. Many prove right also.

The moment a prediction goes wrong, ‘human error’ ( very strangely ) does not come into play. Immediately, Astrology is dismissed as superstitious and only superstitious… nothing else.  There is a saying in Hindi ” a richman’s wife is every one’s sister and a poor man’s wife is every one’s game ( flirt-target ).

Hence, the princess remains a princess and Royal Slut remains a slut !!

If we compare, it comes to this :

Medical Sc. – Millions of deaths every year through ‘human errors’,

( With recognition and institutionalized, continued research )

                                                     VS.

Astrology – No deaths, many wrong and many correct predictions.

( With no recognition no collective, institutionalized research ).

I think a long over due fair chance, can be and should be…given, to Astrology the Royal Slut, to prove herself. A chance of a provisional-recognition, a chance of an institutionalized research  !!

After that we should decide to accept or reject it.

What do you say ?

Waiting for your feedback, perspectives, opinions, views……

Yours truly,
‘religiously’ religion-less and ‘religion-less-ly’ religious !!

One way of saying it is “operation successful but patient died”. The worst part is they never agree that it was their mistake. It’s always the patient who is to be blamed! All they say is “we tried, patient was weak”. Operation is the medicine for almost any ailment. People are changing, they are more aware than before. Many are choosing alternative medicines like ayurveda or homeopathy over English medicines as they do not have any side effects and the treatment is for root cause of the ailment. (for emergency cases, alternative medicines do not work. I am talking about those that take time to heal)

So do you want people to go to astrologers for predictions? And consider that astrology is scientific?

And where in the post I have said that ?

What I have said is :

It should be provisionally recognized and introduced as a subject in schools and colleges …..’institutionalized collective’ research should be conducted ( say, for the next 50 years ) and then based on our research we should accept or reject it…permanently !!

Personally I don’t trust in doctors as I have been left feeling like a number with all that matters being the mighty $. And in the end mistakes are forgivable human errors and nobody is accepting responsibility for nothing anymore. There are more choices these days and while we can’t cure all, people can educate themselves on healthier lifestyles and diets to influence their lives.

I’m not sure what the post has to do with the title, Or what the title means, but I know a couple of people who have died from medical errors during surgery. It’s just horrendously sad.

As I have mentioned ( below the title, in brackets ) this is “in continuation of my post dated 18 June 2016 – The Royal Slut….A Tale of Two Sisters”.

In these posts I have tried to compare Medical Science with Astrology.

A very depressing fact about the Medical industry! It is not only the ‘human error’ that is voluntarily neglected but also the potholes and pitfalls in current medical thinking and practice. Very true that the bias over Science does not give Astrology it’s fair chance!

True. Medical science in a quack’s hands is as much a superstition as Astrology in wrong hands. Even in expert hands, errors will occur. Perhaps we can just pray that our present life isnt saddled with a bad ‘return gift’ from previous karma
